Achievements

Growth in Park Occupancy and Jobs Creation

From 2020 to 2025, PIMSA has experienced significant growth, becoming a key player in the local economy. Here’s a concise overview:

  • Number of tenant company: 35 companies.
  • Total Employees by 2024: 3,473
  • Occupancy Rate: Increased by 5%.

PIMSA’s steady expansion highlights its role in boosting local employment and fostering industrial growth.

Biodiversity Buffer Zone: Sustainability in Action

PIMSA’s 330-hectare biodiversity buffer zone is key to its sustainability strategy. This area, rich in dry tropical forest, supports vulnerable species like the Chavarría bird and provides essential ecosystem services such as flood control, carbon sequestration, and microclimate regulation.

The zone also aids sustainable fishing, water collection for the municipal aqueduct, and wildlife conservation. Collaborations with environmental authorities ensure its protection and enhancement. As part of the GEIPP Colombia program, the mangrove ecosystem is explored for cost-effective wastewater treatment using native flora.

Commitment to Community Well-being

PIMSA’s administration actively promotes community well-being and integration through various events:

  • Emergency Drill: Involves 102 participants annually (33% women, 67% men) with 8 companies collaborating.
  • Annual 5-Kilometer Race: Attracts 200 participants from 17 companies, with the same gender distribution, divided into three categories.

Both events receive 100% satisfaction from surveyed participants. Additionally, PIMSA organizes cleanup days with the municipality and environmental authority, further demonstrating its commitment to the community.

Eco-Industrial Park Plan: Sustainable Growth and Safety

PIMSA developed an Eco-Industrial Park (EIP) Plan. With 60% of its land available for development, the plan aimed to attract 80 new companies and promote sustainable growth.

Key Outcomes

  • Sustainable Land Use: Clear guidelines for development.
  • Business Interest: Attracted resource-efficient companies.
  • Collaboration: Enhanced industry and community cooperation.

Risk Management

  • High Risks: Identified for acids and toxic gases.
  • Moderate Risks: Linked to Class A fuels and dusty environments.
  • Measures like inspection visits and drills were conducted to ensure safety.

Here is the EIP score based on UNIDO’s assessment.

The black lines show the park’s achieved scores in 2024 for each Eco-Industrial Park aspect (Economic, Environmental, Social, and Park Management), while the green lines indicate the expected scores by 2028.
