This growth highlights the development and strengthening of a metalworking cluster, underscoring La Chutana’s role as a dynamic and diversified industrial hub. Currently, there are two major metalworking projects worth $80 million, a plastic piping project valued at $20 million, and a mining mechanics project worth $10 million in the pipeline.

Reforestation center

La Chutana has undertaken a significant reforestation initiative, showcasing its commitment to environmental sustainability. Central to this effort is a 6,000 m² plant nursery located between the Wastewater Treatment Plant (PTAR) and the Chilca Creek North Branch.

A key achievement of this initiative is the riparian defense project, which has reforested 3,500 linear meters of riverbanks with reed canes and eucalyptus. These species were chosen for their ability to stabilize soil and prevent erosion. The project also includes the development of green areas and reforested zones, such as live fences, riverbanks, central berms, and the nursery itself, totaling 11,522 m² of green areas with an additional 78,880 m² planned for reforestation. An innovative aspect of the project is the use of treated water from the PTAR for irrigating the reforested riverbanks and the nursery.

Community interaction and social infrastructure

In 2020, initiatives involved distributing gifts like desserts, toys, and organizing hot chocolate events at local schools. By 2024, activities included funding a $500 communal lunch for the 15 de Enero neighborhood anniversary, delivering 39 food baskets to the La Gloria elderly association, and providing 180 desserts to local nutrition programs. Additionally, 30 desserts were given to the neighborhood board, and 6 food baskets were donated to the local fire station. After starting the EIP transition, La Chutana has also developed infrastructure to benefit both workers and the community.

A multifunctional sports field, spanning 800 m², was built, featuring LED lighting, seating for 200 spectators, and facilities for football, volleyball, and recreational events. These initiatives demonstrate La Chutana’s commitment to fostering social development, improving quality of life, and strengthening community ties.

EIP Master Planning

The progress of the Master Plan for La Chutana Industrial Center has been assessed using a specialized tool for ecoefficient industrial parks (EIP), revealing that only 9 out of 105 required aspects (8.6%) have been completed. Efforts are now focused on enhancing key areas, including the introduction to the Master Plan, the industrial park’s overview, strategic opportunities, risk management, land use breakdown, development regulations, basic infrastructure, environmental infrastructure, social infrastructure, and the corresponding annexes.

This comprehensive approach aims to ensure sustainable and efficient development, laying the foundation for a modern, competitive, and environmentally responsible industrial park.

Here is the EIP score based on UNIDO’s
assessment.

The black lines show the park’s achieved scores in 2024 for each Eco-Industrial Park aspect (Economic, Environmental, Social, and Park Management), while the green lines indicate the expected scores by 2028.
